i am waiting

photograph by palmystree of a woman sitting on the bench on a porch staring out at a frozen lake

longing for your ice age to end
may you embrace the sun
melting away the wall you have built
i am waiting for you to choose life again
i know you beneath that frigid cold
a warm heart with so much love to no end
you have found solitude; a frozen fortress
clouding your home
hardening navigation for those within
finding suckerholes
escaping through the opening in which i came in
mourning the closeness
now distance transcends
